Embroidered applique wings can have fine florist, jewellery or sculpture wire sewn underneath to give structure & support.
Insert the end of the wire into the end claw, this can be secured with a little epoxy glue, use a pin to insert it into the claw & let it set.
Secure a stitch next to where the wire comes out & whip stitch wire to back of wing claw.
Whip stitch, picking up small even stitches, continue following claw lines.
Use long nose pliers to bend the wire to follow wing contours.
Continue whip stitch to the junction with the other claws.
Bend the wire & work down the 3rd claw, finishing end of wire by tucking into claw stitching & securing with a little epoxy glue. Repeat for claws 2 & 5. For claw 4, finish wire by tucking into the claw on the elbow joint. whip stitch all 3 wires together where they meet.
Alternately: Sew claws 1 & 3 then 2 & 4, wire from 5th claw can extend to the 5th claw on the other wing to join them, secure wire to sewing at ends with glue.
Wing can now be folded & shaped.
